INFOSEC Workshop: Introduction to Information Assurance
Workshop Description
The intent of this course is to prepare personnel who are considering or have been newly assigned to their job roles as identified in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS 200), which is acceptable as best practice in commerce as well.
Information Assurance (IA), also known as Information Security, is the practice of ensuring the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) of data and data systems through the study, analysis, and mitigation of risk. There are two basic types of IA risk practitioners:
- Information System Security Officers (ISSOs) – Focus on the operational nature of protecting data
- Information Security System Engineers (ISSEs) – Focus on the technical, hands-on work with software and hardware
We will review the multitude of assignments associated with these two positions, the complex problems associated with safe, secure computing the importance of role-based training in creating a strong defensive stance in protecting your data.
